These shoes were collaboratively created in response to the prompt, “What is it like to be in your shoes? Make a small drawing representing a daily struggle or a daily joy that you experienced this week outside of the classroom.” Drawings were contributed by first-year students in an Introduction to Communication Design class I taught in Fall 2022.
I wore the finished shoes to class periodically throughout the semester. The project is meant to represent the importance of a teacher “walking in their students’ shoes” or understanding students as multidimensional people who bring their outside experiences into the classroom.
